Cross Country Ski Trails

KL’s first choice in cross-country skiing is found behind the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex. Here you will find a range of trails designed to challenge, stimulate and relax you.

The trails are groomed by volunteers weekly, or after a substantial snowfall. They are available for use at no charge during the prime winter skiing months - usually late December until late February (depending on snow conditions). The walking trails are also looked after by volunteers and are available at no charge. Interested residents who would like to help with maintenance (brushing, grooming, tracking) of the trails can call Clancy Roswalka at 705-567-775, or Ian Salonius at 705-567-3802 or by email at isalonius@hotmail.com

Complex ski trails are approximately 11.7 km in length and are made up of six loops. Yellow, blue, red, brown, purple and green. Most loops can accommodate skate skiing in addition to groomed classic skiing tracks. Most loops are of an intermediate level requiring the ability to climb and snow plow on a variety of hill grades.

A map is available at the start of the trails in a wooden box, or at reception at the Community Complex. Click here for a copy. Trail conditions are available by calling the Community Complex at 705-567-5215.

The trails are not patrolled therefore it is recommended that anyone using the trails advise friends or family as to where they are and what time they are expected at home.

Walkers and snowshoers are asked to stay off the groomed tracks which are put in place for skiers only. Snow Shoe trails are being developed. If you are interested in assisting with trail development, please call Peter Georgeoff at 705-567-5689 or pgeorge@nt.net. Pet owners are asked to keep their dogs off the trails between 11:00am and 3:00pm.

The Cross Country Ski Runners are always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested in working at fund raising events such as bingos, garage sales, poker runs or 50/50 draws, please contact Ian Salonius at 705-567-3802 or isalonius@hotmail.com". If you are interested in attending a meeting or sitting on the executive, please contact M. McSherry (secretary) at 705-567-4125 or mcsher@ntl.sympatico.ca
